For their heart health protective benefits, omega 3 fatty acids have gained immense popularity in recent times.
Truth is that heart diseases are one of the leading reasons for deaths across the world. Our body cannot produce omega 3 fatty acids on its own. Omega 3 fatty acids are mostly found in fatty fishes, nuts like walnuts etc, seeds like flax seeds etc and plant oils etc.
How regular intake of omega 3 fatty acids will improve our heart health?
By lowering triglyceride levels:
It is true that the presence of high amounts of triglycerides in us could lead to heart issues in us. It has been brought to light by AHA or American health Association that omega 3 fatty acids especially EPA or eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid or DHA can lower triglycerides levels by up to 30percent. By this, the risk of atherosclerosis or build up of plaque in the arteries would be lowered.
By lowering blood pressure or BP:
The rate of heart attacks and strokes are increased by high blood pressure or hypertension etc. When we consume omega 3 fatty acids then our blood vessels would get relaxed and inflammation would reduce. It has been revealed by research study that regular intake of omega 3 fatty acids would lower BP to a significant extent.
By reducing inflammation in the arteries:
Heart disease can be due to chronic inflammation. It must be noted that intake of omega 3 fatty acid has anti-inflammatory properties that would lower oxidative stress and prevent arterial damage etc. It was revealed by the European Society of Cardiology that omega 3 fatty acids could lower levels of inflammatory markers like C reactive protein or CRP. This would lower the risk of heart based complications in us.
By preventing blood clots:
When arteries get blocked due to the presence of blood clots, then we could get issues like heart attack strokes etc. Excessive clot formation would be prevented by omega 3 fatty acids. The platelets would become less sticky and lower the chances of blockages in the arteries.
By improving heart rhythm:
There are more chances of getting cardiac arrest due to irregular heartbeat or arrhythmia. It was published in a journal of American College of Cardiology that omega 3 fatty acids could stabilise heart cells by reducing the risk of arrhythmias and promoting a steady heartbeat.
By enhancing overall cholesterol levels:
By consuming omega 3 fatty acids regularly, our bad cholesterol levels or LDL would reduce and good cholesterol levels HDL would increase. By this, clear arteries would be present and better cardiovascular f functions would be supported.
By supporting endothelial function:
There is a thin layer of cells lining the blood vessels and this is called endothelium. Omega 3 fatty acids intake would enhance endothelial function by promoting nitric oxide production. This would help the blood vessels to relax and improve blood circulation. It is known that healthy endothelial function is essential for regulating blood flow and preventing arterial stiffness.
