Gold prices have been witnessing sharp fluctuations over the past few days, rising rapidly and correcting slightly before climbing again. After touching a record high of ₹15,025 per gram and ₹1,20,200 per sovereign earlier, prices dipped marginally yesterday.
On January 28, 2026, gold prices surged sharply to a new all-time high. The price of gold increased by ₹370 per gram, reaching ₹15,330 per gram, while the price of one sovereign (22 carat) rose by ₹2,960 to ₹1,22,640. With this jump, gold is now trading at its highest-ever level.
Silver prices also moved upward in line with gold. Silver rose by ₹13 per gram, taking the price to ₹400 per gram, while silver bar prices touched ₹4 lakh in the bullion market.

On January 26, gold prices crossed ₹15,000 per gram for the first time, with 22-carat gold selling at ₹1,20,200 per sovereign. However, prices eased today, with 22-carat gold falling by ₹520 per sovereign to ₹1,19,680. The price per gram dropped by ₹65, settling at ₹14,960.
Despite the minor dip, gold prices have remained on a strong upward trend since the beginning of the year, driven by continued investment interest.

Silver prices rose today, with silver increasing by ₹12 per gram to trade at ₹387 per gram. Bar silver is priced at ₹3.87 lakh per kg.

Silver prices have also witnessed a sharp rise. The price of silver has increased by ₹10,000 per kg, with silver now trading at ₹3,55,000 per kg, while the per gram rate stands at ₹355.

In recent days, gold prices have been changing twice a day – once in the morning and again in the afternoon. Accordingly, the day before yesterday, the price rose by Rs. 3,600 per sovereign in a single day. Yesterday, the surge continued.
The day before yesterday, one gram of gold was sold at Rs. 13,900 and one sovereign at Rs. 1,11,200. According to yesterday morning’s rates, the price increased by Rs. 350 per gram and Rs. 2,800 per sovereign. By the afternoon, it further increased by Rs. 165 per gram and Rs. 1,320 per sovereign. Thus, in a single day, gold prices rose by Rs. 515 per gram and Rs. 4,120 per sovereign, with one gram selling at Rs. 14,415 and one sovereign at Rs. 1,15,320.
In just the last three days, gold prices have surged by Rs. 1,135 per gram and Rs. 9,080 per sovereign.
While gold prices have caused concern on one side, silver prices have shocked consumers on the other. Silver has also been soaring to unprecedented levels. Yesterday, silver prices increased by Rs. 5 per gram and Rs. 5,000 per kilogram, with one gram selling at Rs. 345 and one kilogram at Rs. 3,45,000.
However, today(22.01.2026), gold prices have dropped sharply. In Chennai, the price of 22-carat gold jewellery has decreased by Rs. 1,720 per sovereign and is now being sold at Rs. 1,13,600. The price per gram has decreased by Rs. 215 and is now Rs. 14,200.
Silver prices have also seen a notable decline today. The price of silver has fallen by Rs. 5 per gram, with one gram selling at Rs. 340 and one kilogram at Rs. 3,40,000.

After crossing Rs. 1 lakh per sovereign on December 15 last month, prices saw a brief decline before beginning a steady upward trend from December 22. On December 28, gold reached a new peak and then dropped sharply. However, over the past week, prices have resumed their upward movement.
Yesterday, gold prices increased significantly. In Chennai, the price of 22-carat ornamental gold rose by Rs. 1,360 per sovereign, reaching Rs. 1,07,600 per sovereign. The price per gram increased by Rs. 170 to Rs. 13,450.
Silver prices also recorded a slight rise. One kilogram of silver increased by Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 3,18,000, while the price per gram went up by Rs. 8 to Rs. 318.
