Weather Update: A low-pressure zone forms over the Bay of Bengal!
The Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre has reported that a low-pressure zone has developed over the southeast Bay of Bengal, which may intensify further tomorrow (Wednesday, 10th May) and drift towards Bangladesh.
In a notification released by the Director of the Chennai Regional Meteorological Centre, Pa. Senthamaraikkannan, it is mentioned that a low-pressure zone formed yesterday morning (Monday, 8th May) over the southeast Bay of Bengal and adjacent South Andaman Sea areas. This low-pressure zone is likely to intensify today into a depression zone and may drift over the southeast and central-east Bay of Bengal to develop into a cyclone.
The depression is expected to drift towards the northeast and may prevail over the central-east Bay of Bengal on 11th May. Subsequently, it may move towards the north and northeast and approach the coasts of Bangladesh and Myanmar.
There is a cyclonic formation prevailing in the upper layers of the atmosphere over the Northeastern coastal area of Tamil Nadu. Due to this, there are prospects for mild to medium rain in one or two places today (Tuesday, 9th May) in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
From 10th to 12th May, there are prospects for mild to medium rain in one or two places.
As high-speed winds at 100 kmph are likely to blow until 12th May over the southeast Bay of Bengal, Andaman Nicobar Islands, and the adjacent Andaman Sea, fishermen are warned not to venture into the sea for fishing during this period.

The Department of Horticulture maintains this Rose Garden located in the Kodaikanal Observatory area, where a wide variety of roses are grown and maintained.
Covering an area of 10 acres, the Rose Garden boasts 1500 varieties of 16,000 rose plants, which are regularly maintained by the staff.

Budding women cricketers across TN have now got a reason to feel happy!!
On Monday, 8th May 2023, TNCA or Tamil Nadu Cricket Association announced the launch of a talent scout programme for women cricketers in the state. Beginning from 13th May, the talent scout programme would go on till 21st May in as many as in 37 districts in TN.
For unearthing hidden talent in the districts in the state, TNCA has established a talent scout wing having many former first class cricketers and coaches etc of both men and women.
The talent scout programme would be covering several important districts in TN such as the Nilgris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Erode, Salem, Namakkal, Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Madurai, Theni, Karur, Dindigul, Cuddalore, Vellore, Thiruvannamalai, Thirupathur, Vellore, Ranipet, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, Thiruvallur, Kanniyakumari, Tenkasi, Virudhunagar, Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Pudukottai, Trichy, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Kallakurichi, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Thiruvarur and Thanjavur .
It must be noted that the players must be above the age of 13 and those selected would undergo camps at the respective venues. An inter-district cricket tournament would be held after 9 months and it would be based on the coaches feedback. Point is that 20 to 25 players, if found very good, would be called to Chennai . It is worthy to note that the selected players would be pooled with the present 6 teams in the Freyer`s Cup and a final bunch of players would be created to form 6/7/8 teams to take part in this year`s Freyer Tournament in one day or T20 format.
