The Directorate of Technical Education (DOTE) in Tamil Nadu has reported a substantial number of admissions for the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) until August 31, 2023. The admissions encompassed 80,951 students in the general category and 8,475 students under the 7.5 percent government reservation category, making it a total of 89,426 seats that have been filled.
A total of 442 colleges participated in the counseling process for engineering admissions, and according to official data, the sanctioned intake for these colleges stands at 2.19 lakh.
In a detailed breakdown, the TNEA released round-wise admission statistics. For the general category, round I saw 14,298 students admitted, followed by 33,649 students in round II, and 33,004 students in round III. These numbers added up to 80,951 students admitted until the end of August 2023. Comparatively, in 2022, 84,812 students were allotted seats, and 79,183 students completed their admissions during the same period.
Turning to the government`s 7.5 percent reservation category, the Supplementary Welfare Committee (SWC) seats saw 8,475 students admitted as of August 31, 2023. This category witnessed 936 students admitted in round I, 5,145 students in round II, and 2,394 students in round III.
When examining the reserved category, there has been a slight increase in admissions compared to the previous year. In 2022, out of the 8,759 seats allocated for the reserved category, only 8,263 were filled during the admission process.
