It is known to us that 18000 buses are being operated by the Tamil Nadu Transport Corporation or TNTC.
The transport department has been showing keen interest to buy new buses before the festival of Pongal in January 2024. It was pointed out by some officers from the transport dept that for deepavali festival about 5.50lakhs people travelled from Chennai to their hometowns in TN. For the Pongal festival, there would be more need for the buses as many would be travelling to their hometowns. Works have been going on now regarding purchasing 1666 new buses before the Pongal festival.
