Thatchankurichi village in Pudukottai is now gearing up to conduct the first jallikattu event in 2023!!

This event would be held on Friday with many safety measures etc. Online registration for the bulls and for the tamers are being invited by the organisers now.On Thursday, a govt notification in this regard was received is known.

Every year, as a part of Arockia Annai Basilica festival and the Pongal celebrations organised by the Church, the Thachankurichi village would host the jallikattu event on 1st of January itself. In 2022, due to many restrictions etc, the jallikattu event was held on 13th January. Thirty days ago, the event organisers had approached the district administration and were seeking permission from the veterinary dept. Truth is that the organisers did not get any proper response from them.

As per an organiser, it was clear that the officials concerned were visited by them every day but the organisers were made to wait. It was mentioned that TN had to initiate steps and issue notification etc. He spoke about how successful conduct of jallikattu events was very important and how initial works like vadivasal and rings etc were completed.

Till notification was received from TN govt yesterday , the organisers were not sure about organising the jallikattu event. Later, the online registrations for bulls and tamers started. The event would witness 700 bulls from several parts of TN and 300 tamers. To assess the bulls health, a veterinary team has begun its work and a medical team would ascertain the tamer`s fitness.
