From 30th December 2022, tokens for the Pongal gifts would be issued to the ration card holders in Chennai and across TN. This was announced by the state government.
Yesterday, 27th December, the state food minsier Mr. R. Sakkarapani and the state cooperative minister Mr. KR. Periyakaruppan have announced that on30th December , 31st Decemberr, 1st Jan and 2nd January tokens for the Pongal gifts would be distributed to the 2.19 crore ration card holders
It is learnt that the gift of Rs 1000 would be distributed directly as cash to the ration card holders at the fair price ration shops.
Regarding including sugarcane also in the Pongal gift from the TN government, the minister Mr. R. Sakkapraani mentioned that distribution of Rs 1000, a kg of raw rice and sugar etc to the ration card holders was taken at the meeting headed by the chief minister of TN. The final decision about providing sugarcane to the ration card holders would be taken by the chief minister only. The differently able persons and elders etc could receive the Pongal gift by authorising a person to collect on their behalf.
