If there is one drink that is considered as a nutrient rich drink in every household, then it is none other than milk!!
Yes it`s true that many of us drink milk every day. Drinking milk with meals or with health supplements would soothe our stomach and digestion. Not many of us are aware of the fact that there are certain supplements that must never be consumed along with milk.
These are the health supplements that we must never consume with milk.
Never consume iron supplements with milk:
When we drink milk with iron supplements, then absorption of iron would be hindered. It is worthy to note here that calcium present in the milk would couple with iron from iron supplements and this combo would make it tough for the body to absorb iron. Nott only calcium bit also casein and whey proteins in milk would make it difficult for iron absorption. It has been brought to light by research studies that absorption of iron would be reduced by 50percent by consuming it with milk. It is good to consume iron supplements with water.
Never consume thyroid medicines with milk:
Drinking milk with thyroid medications would affect the absorption of thyroid medications. It must be taken into note that calcium and iodine would interfere with levothyroxine absorption. By this, the effectiveness of thyroid medications would get lowered and hormone levels would become unstable. However, it is good to take thyroid medications with water.
Never consume antibiotic supplements with milk:
It has been revealed that antibiotic supplements like tetracycline and ciprofloxacin must never be taken with milk. Bitter fact is that calcium in the milk would get attached to these and form complexes. The complexes would not be absorbed by the body. It is necessary to give atleast 30 minutes between intake of antibiotic supplements and milk etc. Antibiotic supplements must be taken with water only and not with milk.
Never consume zinc supplements with milk:
It is learnt that both zinc and calcium are vying for absorption in the intestines. The amount of zinc absorbed by our body would get reduced if we combine both zinc supplements and milk. It must be noted that if we are on zinc for immunity or for skin health etc then consuming milk would make zinc ineffective. It is okay to consume zinc supplements with foods that do not contain dairy.
Never consume magnesium supplements with milk:
Truth is that magnesium absorption by our body would get reduced by consuming magnesium supplements with milk. Many of us take magnesium supplements for sleep, muscle recovery or for PMS and they must consume magnesium with water and stay away from milk etc.
