My Business Cards Smiled at Me ! – J Sampath

My Business Cards Smiled at Me ! – J Sampath

Today, as I glanced at the stack of business cards on my table, they seemed to smile at me – bringing back a flood of memories from all these years of meetings, connections, and handshakes.

For 24 years, I have meticulously planned meetings days in advance, reconfirmed them in the morning, and driven miles to meet new people and prospects. Each meeting was a ritual -arriving with enthusiasm, standing with poise, holding the business card in both hands, offering a slight bow of respect, and exchanging a warm handshake. It wasn’t just a card; it was the first tool, the first asset, and the bridge that initiated countless valuable relationships.

Beyond the exchange of information, the act itself carried gratitude, intention, and hope -hope that the connection would grow into something meaningful for both parties. And while my conscious mind focused on the conversation, my subconscious absorbed the surroundings, the energy, and the unsaid dynamics of the meeting.

Today, things have evolved. Meetings now happen over Zoom and Google Meet, making it easier to connect with people from anywhere in the world. While the medium has changed, the essence of building relationships remains strong. Technology has enabled us to expand our reach, foster global collaborations, and stay connected more efficiently than ever before.

As I sit at my desk, looking at my business cards – once exchanged with pride and purpose – I feel a sense of gratitude. They remind me of an era where personal touch defined connections, and they inspire me to carry that warmth and intention into every virtual interaction. Because whether in person or online, relationships thrive on trust, respect, and the willingness to create something meaningful together.

Today, my business cards smiled at me. And I smiled back, knowing that every connection – past, present, and future – is a step toward growth and new possibilities.
