Vellore museum was launched in year of 1985 on 6th September and it is a state Government museum in Lutchmanasamy Town Hall near Old Bus stand. Now it was shifted to inside of the Vellore fort in 1st April 1999 due to scarcity of space for further development of museum.

The complete area of this museum is 9000 square feet in which the display area is 5000 square feet. This museum is exclusively dedicated for showcasing the objects related to ancient art, archaeology, pre-history, weapons, sculptures, bronzes, wood carvings, handicrafts, numismatics, philately, botany, geology and zoology. It consist of 2896 exhibits both the displayed and reserved. The view time of this museum is from 9.00 AM to 12.00 PM and 2.00 PM to 5.00 PM all days
