ABOUT THE INSTITUTE

Founded in 1984 as Vellore Engineering College by Mr. G. Viswanathan, former Member of Parliament and Minister in the Government of Tamil Nadu, it was promoted by the North Arcot Educational and Charitable Trust, Vellore. The Institute was conferred the 'Deemed University Status' in recognition of its academic excellence by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, and renamed it as Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT). It has a vision to impart quality technical education to cater to the needs of all societies around the globe and maintain a high standard of discipline through a dedicated, involved and committed staff, it strives not only to bring out knowledge wise superior students but also to make them ethically strong.

The Center has full time management team, that has extensive experience in entrepreneurship, product development, and marketing, securing venture capital funding and organizational development. In addition to this, an advisory board consisting of eminent academicians and expert professionals from diverse industries will guide the potential start-up firms (incubatees). VIT has relationship with a network of leading professionals from different industries and industry development bodies, which may help the start-ups to graduate to become full-fledged self supporting successful venturess.

FACILITIES

  • The Institute has a dedicated 65 Kb and 2 Mb leased line connectivity to internet through VSNL and Dishnet DSL, Providing global information access to the staff and students. E-mail accounts are provided for all students and staff.

  • VIT's Library is an unique feature of the campus and is housed in a 25,000 sq.ft. centrally air conditioned building. It has over 40,000 books, 4,400 back volumes of scientific and technical periodicals and extensive non-print learning resources. The library also subscribes to 300 specialised journals, both Indian and foreign.

  • VIT campus spread across a vast area of 250 acres. A striking feature of VIT is the well-planned and comprehensive infrastructure provided for both students and faculty. The latest technologies are provided in the computing centres with 55 servers and over 1000 computers. Modern laboratories enable students and researchers to keep abreast of emerging trends and applications.

  • Established a CAM (Computer aided Manufacturing) Centre with CNC trainer lathe, CNC vertical production milling machine and six axis (SCARA Robot. The students are given hands on experience in CNC machines programming and operations. A CAD (Computer Aided Design) Centre with latest software has been established.
