Mrs. Beulah Premkumar, Nursing Professor, Visited the USA

Beulah Premkumar is a Graduate of the College of Nursing, Christian Medical College at Vellore, India. She belongs to the BSc batch of 1974-79 and the MSc batch of 1985-87. She was born into a Christian family with 6 siblings. Her parents were school teachers. She completed her primary and secondary schooling in Christian institutions affiliated with the Church of South India. Ms Premkumar then undertook her pre-university course in a nearby Catholic college affiliated with Madras University. After her studies at CMC, she earned her M. Phil. in guidance and counseling from Mother Theresa Women’s University, Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu. She is currently in the process of registering for a Ph. D., in Nursing under Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai.

Professor Premkumar has undertaken numerous conferences and short-term course to upgrade and update her knowledge and skills. She has presented thirty-four scientific papers and organized numerous workshops under the sponsorship of the College of Nursing and the Board of Nursing Education of the Christian Medical Association of India. She has been involved in research endeavors with a team based in the Pulmonary Medicine Department, and as an individual, has studied the effect of guidance and counseling on reproductive health among adolescent schoolgirls.

Since 2007 in addition to her other responsibilities, Professor Premkumar has been responsible for insuring that international visitors to CMC have a positive experience both professionally and personally. She handles preliminary correspondence with applicants for elective study as well as volunteers and observers. She refers prospective visitors to appropriate departments and oversees their placement in housing, police registration and orients them to campus life. She also arranges tours and itineraries for short-term guests and visitors. She bears responsibility for maintaining smooth functioning of institutional guest houses and arranging transportation from and to airports. She works with the Development Office on programs to introduce international visitors to CMC and to Indian culture.
